Problem Statement

Given range and power requirements, model and simulate a battery electric vehicle and select the most suitable components such as battery technology and motor.

Solution Approach

First the overall system was modelled in terms of subsystems and system boundaries. Then a simple kinematic model was developed to represent the vehicle's motion under different drive cycles to get an estimate of the power required. A suitable traction motor and inverter were evaluated and selected based on their power specifications, then different battery technologies were compared to determine the most suitable battery pack.
